Creation is the act of God whereby he calls into existence what did not exist before, producing an entirely new thing, -- making something out of nothing.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," -- Gen.1:1 "great whales and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly after their kind, and every fowl after his kind" (verse 21), so "God created man, male and female" (verse 27), and the stars of heaven. -- Isa.40:26. He also at conversion, creates a new heart in man, a heart with clean thoughts, new desires and holy acts. -- Psalms 51:10, Eph.4:24. For man cannot change his own heart, which is naturally sinful, anymore than the "Ethiopian can change his skin or the leopard his spot." -- Jer.13 :23.
The sun, moon, and stars, angels, and hosts of heaven were all created by God. -- "He commanded and they were created," "he spake and it was done," -- and he "upholds all things by the word of his power." -- Heb.1:3. "Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things." -- Isa.40:26. "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven and earth, visible and invisible." -- Col.1:16.
Creation Cannot Be Explained
Science cannot explain creation, for no science can explain the mystery of life. It is "through faith that we understand that the worlds were framed by, the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." -- Heb.11:3
Psalms 33:9 shows that the earth was not made from preexisting matter, "For he spake and it was done; he commanded and it stood fast." Job asks the question, -- "Canst thou by searching find out God?" There is no process of reasoning, system of research or investigation, whereby we may comprehend God or his creation. "For as the heavens. are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways." -- Isa.55:9.
Man has tried to reason things out, and he has gotten as far as what he calls "the law of cause and effect." A watch is an object that cannot exist without a designer and maker; the maker was the cause, the watch the effect; so the heavens and the earth are objects which show design, and so they must have had a designer and maker. Man will admit this in case of the watch, but not in the case of the earth.
How God Works
God works through the laws of nature, which are the laws of the universe, God's laws, -- laws that were in existence long before this earth was created. It is through these laws that he designs and creates, and most of them are mysteries to us, because they have not been discovered or worked out, they have not been revealed to us. Man has found out something of the "law of gravity," "adhesion," "reflection," "refraction," "centrifugal force," etc., but nature is full of laws which man as yet knows nothing about, -- in fact, are still miracles to him -- like the creation of the earth, because he cannot understand it.
Creation a Fact
"Thy word is settled in the heavens . . . thou hast established the earth and it abideth . . . they continue this day according to thine ordinances." -- Psalms 119:89-91. "He commanded and they were created. He hath established them forever and ever." -- Psalms 148:5,6.
Many of the mysteries of God have not been revealed to man, and in his puny way, he has not been able to discover much. However, in this generation, when men are "running to and fro," knowledge is being increased very rapidly; the human voice viz radio is sent around the world in a "split" second. A substance "light as air" supports the weight of tons moving at the rate of several hundred miles an hour. These are some of the wonderful possibilities existing in our created world; can you explain them? You say yes, -- by the laws of science. Who originated the laws of science, they did not come by chance. You cannot get away from the plain, "thus saith the Lord," -- "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." -- Gen.1:1.
