Who Are They and Why?
Are they right or are they wrong, in their religious beliefs. The Bible is their textbook, and by its teachings they keep the seventh day as the Sabbath of the Lord, and believe that the second coming of Christ is near at hand.
They are looked upon by many as a "peculiar people." Some are inclined to condemn them before making an investigation. The Lord says, "Come now and let us reason together." -- Isa. l:18. "Prove all things and hold fast that which is good." -- 1.Thes.5:21. "To the law and to the testimonies, if they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them."
"He who will not reason is a bigot." -- Cicero.
They believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures were inspired of God, that in them is contained all the necessary instruction to make a man acceptable in the sight of God, and worthy of a home in the Kingdom to come. "The Holy Scriptures are able to make thee wise unto salvation."
Thousands of Adventists are springing up all over the world, and many of them may be found scattered among us, so why not know something of their beliefs, and upon what they found their doctrines.
All who know them must admit that they are a conscientious, law abiding, God fearing, whole souled people, who, from the Bible, are ready to give a reason for the hope that is within them (1.Peter 3:15).
They believe that there is a Bible message for this generation, to be preached to "every nation, kindred, tongue, and people." -- Matt. 24:14, Rev. 14:6. Their publishing houses, churches, and sanitariums are now to be found in various countries scattered all over the world.
According to their 1939 year book, the membership of the denomination was approximately 500,000; with 2,500 ordained ministers, and 1,500 licensed ministers. These are scattered all over the world, and the denomination is rapidly increasing.
Some of their fundamental beliefs, and the Scriptures upon which they are based, will be found in the following pages of this book.
"Search the Scriptures," for it is through them that we attain eternal life, and it is believed that comparatively few will make the necessary effort. "Many are called, but few are chosen." "Fear not little flock, it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." -- Luke 12:32.
Christ says "I am the way, the truth and the life," (John 14:6), but very few search to find the way, which is "straight and narrow."
Who knows, -- these people may be right, if so, you should know it,
"Keep one thing forever in view -- the truth; and if you do this, though it may seem to lead you away from the opinions of men, it will surely conduct you to the throne of God." -- Horace Mann.
